Athlon XP 1700 -- Tbred A vs. Tbred B?

I've been thinking about trying to acquire an Athlon XP 1700, and have seen reference to Tbred A and Tbred B. Can someone tell me what that refers to and what the significance is?

the T-bred B has some core changes over the T-bred A
they had to add an extra layer to the T-bred core in order to achieve higher clock speeds

short answer "T-bred B is better"

Thanks. I'm guessing that if I'm not going to be overclocking, then there's no difference.

Can someone tell me how I can tell whether its a Tbred A or B? I know some people post photos of the actual chip itself, does that show it? From looking at descriptions on Newegg or TCWO, I can't tell which is which.

if stepping ends wtih B, then its tbred "B"
if it ends with A, then its tbred "A"

anther way is to look in wcpuid....but you'd have to have chip installed lol
680=tbred a
681=tbred b

Where in wcpuid does it tell you whether it is a A or a B? I can't find it.

Family 6, Model 8, Stepping ID 1 (Standard)

It's listed right under CPU Type and above the Name String in WCPUID 🙂

No, if you are not overclocking, you will not notice a difference. The differences between the two are manufacturing changes intended to increase the ability of the core to reach higher. At the same speeds, there will be no performance difference.

TBred B is pretty much the only TBred available right now. Difference being that the B version can reach @ least 200 mhz high OC!

Even if u r not O/C...getting the B (assume it is same $$) is no harm. U'll never know when it come in handy. 😉
