Athlon X2 6000+ High Temps?

Why spend $35.99 to cool a historically known HOT processor? Why not just use that $35.99 and buy a newer, cooler running processor? Would seem like the more logical choice than the heatsink option.

OP - I couldn't see anywhere that you listed your MOBO, so I am simply going off of the socket type your current processor is, which seems like is a typical AM2 socket. I would try to find something based off of the Brisbane core if you can find it.

AMD X2 5600 would be a decent choice:

Not sure if your board supports AM2+, but here's a link to some AM2+ processors:

Ebay has some too, but didn't know if you wanted to go that route.

Good luck!

You may want to isolate whether this is a case cooling issue, or a CPU cooling issue. Fixing the CPU cooler wont do much if its way too damned hot inside the case.

Run the system with the case open and maybe point a big house fan into it. Under those conditions, if its still that hot, then case cooling isn't your problem.

I got an XFX NForce 590 SLI board. I *think* it only supports AM2 sockets.

I'm reluctant to buy a new fan or chip, as I might as well just buy one of those cheap Fry's combo for $50 CPU+Mobo.... Prolly runs faster than my X2 6000+.

I will give that open case a try and post the CPU-Z information later today.
