Just installed the this thing on my ASUS M2NBP-VM CSM with a fanless Scythe Ninja Mini. I used Arctic Silver 5. I have 2x1GB of Corsair memory, a Corsair HX620W power supply. The case is a LIAN LI PC-A16B with two Sythe S-FLEX 12cm fans. While running Prime95, according to ASUS PC PROBE II, the CPU temps rise to 69-70 degrees celsius and the mobo rises to 45 degrees celsius. Is this normal???? It's about 19 degrees celsius outside right now, but the case is completely open (the side panels are off).

The flipping heatsink was a b*tch to put on, and now my Green Power 1TB hard drive is making this high pitched squealing noise while being formatted. Gah!!!! Why is this so stressful~~~~~

Seriously? OH my... It felt like I was going to break the motherboard putting the heatsink on. So pretty much, I should try installing the heatsink again... I mean, typically... This "low power" AMD CPU should run fine without a fan, right?

Oh wow...I have an X2 4200+ (89W) running passively with a Scythe Ninja (large version) on it and I don't see temps past 50C (and it's a good 27C in the room). Remount the heatsink (and it shouldn't take that much effort really) when mobo is OUT of the case. I broke a K8 retention bracket installing the Ninja inside the case.

Before doing any re-mounting of HSF. I'd see if coretemp shows the same temps. If it does, I'd have to agree with others; improperly mounted HSF.

The Athlon X2 4850 has the G2 stepping. All G2s have borked Thermal Sensors which means that no program will show you the correct temperature. If you want to know if your temps are alright then feel the base of the heatsink under load, that should give you an idea of how warm yor processor is.

Maybe this might be it.

however you may want to try RMClock.

Either bad sink mount, or borked sensor. Those suckers should be idling 2-3C over ambients inside your case at the most.

And load no more then 15-20C over ambients with stock cooler.

Unless your ambients is completely botched.

If its 30C outside, there is no way in hell your cpu can idle at less then 30C.

Well RallyMaster, really wish I read your post earlier. Removing the heatsink, I kind of broke that bracket. I think everything is OK though, because I was able to put the retail HSF on and it hasn't fallen off. I didn't try Core Temps before doing all this, sorry! Right now, ASUS PC PROBE II says my CPU is 32-33 degrees celsius and that my mobo is 37 degrees celsius. Core Temps 0.99 says Core #0 is 6 degrees celsius and Core #1 is 22 degrees celsius. I'm going to run Prime95 now, wish me luck~~~~

Oh, and thanks for all the help guys. Putting all this together wasn't easy. Plus, I bent all the top fins on the heatsink. :(

FINAL EDIT: Temps finally look good. Don't think I'll every purchase another Scythe heatsink again though!
