Looks like the CPU upgrade made my computer run slower .... AND i cant even play Quake 4 at all ... i get like 5-10 frames but my friend with a A64 2800+ and 6600 runs it fine. 40-60fps

Ive tried everything now .... Disabled cool and quiet installed AMD Dual CPU drivers Installed Microsoft Dual CPU patch installed all new Motherboard drivers & videocard
OMG i did everything....

And i did format when i first got the upgrade 3 weeks ago.

Is this normal ?? Does anyone else have this same problem??

On my old system with a 6800GT and a Barton 3200XP I got around 4800, theres no way thats right. Ditto on mess around with drivers, because seriously theres no way 2100 is right... and anything made in the last 4 years should be able to run Quake 4...abeit at diverse settings.

You might need that dual core fix from Microsoft. I'm sure someone here can point you in the correct place.

Even long time tweakers run into "user errors" from time to time. Sounds like its time for you to get down to basics, unplug peripherals not needed, cd drives, sound cards, PCI cards, reseat cpu/ram, run bios defaults, etc.

i had terrible performance when i tried to do a plug n play with my x2. even after installing the proper x2 drivers and updating the chipset it still ran like crap.

i had to do a re-install of xp and then everything flew.

Have you installed any video 'tweakers' like nHancer? Using latest official WHQL? What are the settings under "Performance & Quality Settings" in your ForceWare control panel? Video hardware set to full acceleration? Video card clocks normal? Whether AGP or PCI-E, make sure it's running at 8x or x16 respectively (or x8 for SLI). May I suggest you also try driver cleaner in this case.

I did that snakebitten ... Removed the 1 PCI card i had TVtuna i changed 2x1 gb sticks to 2x512mb stick bios defaults i haven?t done ... as defaults put the Ram to DDR333Mhz but cant hurt to see if that helps .. geee running a slower PC makes it faster interesting if it does fix it.

I did a fromat when i got the system upgraded and i installed latest Nvidia 81.85 WHQL drivers.
Bios is set to 256agp-Apend, 8xagp, Fastright on. And i never touch the forceware control panel ... i just use the card as it is after installing drivers.

Edit: Actually on second thought I'm thinking it's related to the new drivers' offloading of vertex processing to the 2nd CPU. See if it happens with the 7x.xx drivers.

Update motherboard BIOS? Heck if I know...

Could be an obscure bug in the SMP HAL or something. Grasping for straws here but maybe try increasing the IRQ priority to your card to be the highest? It's definitely not going to damage your hardware, but it could screw your Windows (just as much as any registry hack). You'll have to get the IRQ # of your video card in system device properties.

http://arstechnica.com/guides/tweaks/sgp-tweaks.ars/2

Other drivers can also have a negative effect on performance because they all go in the same IRQ loop. Mention your audio, network, mouse drivers and their respective versions (in addition to any other hardware you installed special (non Windows default) drivers for).

I assume you have nothing running in the background except explorer.exe, lsass.exe, csrss.exe, and other crucial system processes? You can download HijackThis and use generate startup list to get a list of currently running processes. Just paste that here.

I'm Formating tonight and installing WinXP Pro 64bit

From the looks of it with what i use the computer for this Version of XP although lacking shouldnt be a problem. At least its better then reloading something i know is already bugy with my current hardware.

Fingers crossed i'm not wasting my time. But i hafta do something to get my computer feeling like an upgrade otherwise i just wasted a whole load of money and time.

Definitely user error.....

I installed my X2 with no driver or fixes for over 3 weeks and 3dmark01,03 and 05 ran just fine....there are no issues except some saying a portion of the playback would speed up (for some) yet I hadn't heard of it neutering scores to 1/3rd of what they should be....Try using any driver before 81.x and they will not be dual core optimised...optimised drivers gained me like 300-400 pts over the 77x series....

Hi Duvie

This is an issue with my system .. Installing windows from a Blank hardrive with only SP2 i still have the issue..

You see i'm running an Astock 939 Ali AGP micro ATX motherboard with a Dual CPU and a Geforce 6800 AGP i think its got something to do with Dual CPU and AGP ... How many people out there have Dual core CPU's on an AGP motherboard???

I know some people have AGP on that Hybrid PCI-AGP board but this one isnt .. its AGP only.
and Micro ATX.

Hrm yea that cant be right .. My previous P4 Northwood (Hyperthread) setup running at stock 2.8ghz with a 6800 GT scored higher than that,This pic shows my previous pc vs. new 3dmark 05 results. AMD result ran using 81.85 forceware. I didnt install any cpu drivers or cool n quiet for my X2..all I did was a clean install of WinXP w/ SP2 integrated and the nforce4 drivers off my motherboard cdrom Minus the nforce IDE driver, Heard to many bad stories about it and the stock winxp IDE driver is doing fine.

OK i installed Windows XP 64 Bit and still got the same problem .. low 3Dmark and Quake 4 runs like a slidshow .. the only thing i havent done now is a Bios update .. as i dont have a Floppy disk and a floppy power cable from my Power supply this is going to suck big time ... Ive done it befor and it requires me to hook up a floppy drive with an external power supply ... lol funky stuff

I'm going to run my system like this for a while and do it later i just formatted twice tonight .. once for XP 64bit then back to XP 32bit so i could get my TV/FM card and USB graphics tablet working again .... DAMNIT i should of never upgraded.

If this Bios update doesnt fix it i'm going to just put up with it and upgrade to a PCI-E Motherboard with a NEW PCI-E Videocard Myabe a 6600GT .. A bit of a downgrade but i'm not wasting anymore money. At least i'll run games better then i'm running them now with this X2 3800 and Geforce 6800Ultra

It might be interesting to run some CPU specific benchmarks to see if they are coming out where they should. Maybe the CPU tests in Sandra, Prime95, or Pi.

Sandra would also let you see if the memory bandwidth scores are where they should be.

Also, might as well cover the obvious, make sure that your have a good connection with the card's aux power cable. It sounds like your card has underclocked itself for some reason. Perhaps a overclocking utility (Riva Tuner?) could confirm what your core and memory are actually running at.

Do you have a cd burner? I use mine for BIOS boot disks. Lots of guides out there for making a bootable CD-ROM with the BIOS stuff on it.

That's good advice.

It sounds like maybe you forgot the motherboard drivers ?? Or the X2 driver ? or the registry patch from Microsoft ? Or other drivers ? Or the power cable to the video card ?

I too am having a few issues with games such as Battlefield 2 and my newer setup. My specs are close to yours: 3800+X2, MSI NF3 Neo2 Platinum, and an AGP Gainward 6800GT. I have reinstalled everything and still am having problems with Battlefield 2. I am wondering if it is the X2 and the AGP card?

Edit: My older 3500+ worked WELL with the same mobo, GPU, etc. and I did a complete reinstall of the OS twice so I doubt it is the combo I am running.
