Athlon vs. Thunderbird

I was wondering why some people are recommending getting a Athlon instead of a Thunderbird right now?
I know the Thuderbird is new, but are there some problems with it, etc... that makes some people recommend getting the Athlon instead?

I'm just speculating, but could this be because of the clock locking of the Thunderbirds making it virtually unoverclockable like the Duron?
