Athlon Thunderbird operating temperature

I know Athlon CPUs are less sensitive to heat than P3 Coppermines, and put out a lot more of that heat. This CPU temperature I'm getting from my unoverclocked 800mhz Socket-A Thunderbird makes me wonder... I have a rather small, standard S370 celeron fan on the top. CPU temp's around 42-47 degrees depending on what I do. System is stable, but is this too high? What kind of temp are you all getting from your Athlons and Tbirds?

you're fine. My athlon (.18micron offdie cache) 700 @ 806 never gets above 45c, and they have a heat tolerance of well over that. If you are concerned, get a better heatsink, use thermal paste, better case cooling, ect.

I agree with Burnt Kooshie, you are well within the limits. My "classic" Athlon never gets above 90F under load, but I have several fans/case mods. I wouldn't worry.

Thanks! I also read from some Duron review that they had a hard time getting the CPU run cooler than 52 degrees celsius, so I guess 45C is ok for a Tbird
