Athlon T-bird 1.33 starting to overheat

A month or so ago i bought a GlobalWin WBK38 heatsink/fan from my friend. it's fairly good, but unbearably loud (i'll be replacing it with a Speeze WhisperRock II soon). Anyway, when i first got it, my CPU (Athlon Thunderbird 1.33 GHz) ran at around 36-39 idle and high-40s under load. Recently, my computer restarted itself while i was playing Halo. It's done it several more times since then while playing games. I went and looked at PC Alert and, to my surprise, the CPU now idles at mid- to high-50s and can reach as high as 70 under load. obviously, this isn't good, and i haven't tried to play a game since then. What might've happened to it that would cause this spike in heat? i checked all of the fans in the computer, and they're all working properly. there is no buildup of dust in the heatsink or fan, since it's practically new. The only change i've made to the computer is to add an Audigy, but i doubt that's the cause of anything. Does anyone have any suggestions of things to try that might help this?

remove the HSF and apply some thermal paste again and then re-install.

maybe not... now it's at high-40s to mid-50s idle, sometimes (and seemingly randomly) spiking up to 65 or so for a second, and then back down. load temps seem to be mid-upper 50s. hmm

I used to have that heatsink on my oc'ed T-bird(1@1.3ghz). Mine floated around the 40s with full-load. I recommend you lap the base the heatsink. It comes with a fairly rough surface and it might be cause of your problem
