Athlon T-Bird 1.1Ghz -- Up The Voltage?

Hi there...

I have an MSI K7T Pro and an AMD Athlon T-Bird 1.1Ghz CPU. With thsi board, I am unable to change the multiplier on the chip, but I would also like to get a bit of an overclock out of this chip as well, if possible. I know that overclocking the FSB on a board with an AMD chip does not usually work too well, as it has not yet for me either (can't get over a 50Mhz overclock with the FSB), but what if I upped the voltage just a teeny bit... would the FSB go higher and be stable? What does everyone suggest here...

I don't remember the 1.1 ghz T-birds to be much of an overclocking chip, but you should be able to get some more speed out of it. Yes you should be safe to up your voltage even to 1.85vcore if you have adequate cooling. If your trying with a stock heatsink then you should monitor your temps pretty carefully and only go up in small amounts (upping your fsb) at any one time. Test your overclock with Prime95 to see if it is stable. If you temps start approaching 60C then I think you might need to back the speed off or get a better heatsink if you plan on trying to get more speed out of it.

Thanks WarCon... so upping the voltage a bit will allow me to get the FSB to run stable at ~110 (theoretically)?

Well doesn't that motherboard have the KT133 chipset, not the KT133A. It is pretty much limited to 112fsb or less. If you feel confident enough to do it you should unlock your processor and use the multiplier to overclock. You may be able to get further than with the fsb.

And yeah the voltage is pretty much the key. (Cooling and voltage)

Well, this mobo does not support changing of the multiplier, but if it did, I would have done it!

I'll work with the voltage and FSB some more though... I have pretty good cooling setup moving over 300CFM's right now So, I think the limitation will be the chipset... I'd like to be able to get another 100Mhz or so out of it though, but I doubt I will hit that.

I Have a 1.2 Tbird, and I tried to unlock it one day, with a pencil, and I put it back in my machine and it wouldnt bot. Did I do something incorrectly, or did i get some static in the chip? I wound up buying a new one....

And in my bios, if i can see the settings for voltage and multiplier and all, but i cant access them (ECS K7S5A board) does this mean the board will not let me, or just that I havent unlocked the chip???

I can't get this sucker any higher than stock with the FSB and voltage settings. Oh-well... next upgrade will have overclocking in mind.
