Athlon MP vs. Xeon: Classes of their own or direct competitors?

Does a Xeon with RDRAM totally outclass the Athlon MP with DDR? Should the two even be compared or do they actually compete against eachother? I would like to see some reviews if anybody has any links handy on comparing the two. Thanks!

EDIT: Sorry if this isn't considered 'Highly Technical'- I figured it was a little above regular hardware, but please move my thread if necessary, moderators.

The amount of cache available makes the athlon weaker solution compared to the xeon (which has more). Cache is important. all else being the same. I have not seen benches for the new intel server chips which stil use RDR.

I suppose they are in direct competition in their markets.

Actually, no the Xeon does not totally out class the Athlon... Since the Northwood came out it's much better, but the Athlon still managed to stay in the fight. Now most benchmarks I've seen didn't make use of the Xeon's Hyper-Threading, so I don't know what that will do.

The zenon get tromped on.

From what I can gather is that AMD has limited facilities or fabrication plants. So to get the most out of the die AMD uses the smallest size possible. In Intels case they are trying to get more ummm, well different stuff in their goals and adding more goodies on the chipset is what they are doing, I don't see or remember really interesting just the latest P-4 having more cache.

muttley

AMD is still a competitor, definitely.
I heard BMW is using all AMD for their crash test simulations, which sounds interesting.
Wasn't RDRAM also not being used in the xeon because of the low density?
I'm full of things I've just heard, oh well...
