No, but it is a waste of money to buy an MP chip and not run it in dual. Why not just get an XP chip?

Going at it from the other angle, I know you can have like Dual Pentium II based systems so could you have a dual Athlon XP system?....I know it wouldn't be as good as a Dual MP based system but is it possible?

Although MP's generally cost more than XP processors (unless you're just getting a sweet deal on an MP processor), they function just like an XP when installed by themselves in a motherboard.

can't seem to edit this thing.......

anyway, I bought an XP 1900+ for my friend while I purchased two MP 2000+'s for myself, and the store just decided to send me all three as MP chips!!! cool!!

So as I'm installing the MP 1900+ into the MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU, I was able to reach multiplier rates of up to 14 and 15, not to mention the adjustable fsb rates. So maybe MP chips come to us unlocked? it's possible. I guess no one wants to pay extra just to find out.

Yes but the XP chips must be smp unlocked and it is the same idea as a dual MP setup. Recently AMD has been randomly smp locking XP chips so that they can not be run in dual. However some of the chips are still unlocked and it is possilbe to unlock them just like unlocking the multiplier of the XP chip.

MPs are identical to XPs in everything but official dual-processor certification. MPs usually come unlocked.
