Yes Playstation 2 :) also this BSNES is intriguing, what more does it offer than the regular Z and 9x emulators?

No, he doesn't need an i5 at all for "general computing"; I notice little difference when disabling 2 cores on my 3770K and practically turning it into an i3 with more cache when web browsing on an X25-M SSD.

But if he suddenly gets a taxing game to emulate and doesn't have enough CPU power, he's probably going to be a getting an i5 anyway AFTER already investing ~$200 in a $120 chip and motherboard and burn up time selling his old and used CPU.

And yes, if a few years down the road and he get Photoshop or video editing software for home videos, the i5 will still handle these tasks quite well. Or, he might wants to record his playthroughs; those two extra cores will come in handy. :D

With individual core performance increases slowing down these days, it probably won't be until Skylake that the "K" i5s gain enough of a lead over an Ivy i5 to justify upgrading.

I currently have an Athlon II X4 3.0 GHz overclocked to about 3.3 GHz with 4gb of 1600 RAM and a 5770.
Plus I've never OC'd before. So it should be fun to play with the Z77 board, K processor, and 212.

True, it may not benefit general computing at all, but I think the extra power for $80 extra will help for the other stuff I would like to do.

Also, I should've probably specified that the 10% OC my x4 had was a no-thrills one-click BIOS setting. I couldn't go above that at all doing it manually on the Asus board I had, so I just used the BIOS OC.

With this board, I hope to actually experiment and see how high I can go with a strong processor using that Tom's guide for IB and fidget. Like a learning experience.

Thanks for all of your help, guys! Greatly appreciate it!

Perfect compatibility with a small handful of games that the other emus couldn't handle, and some new-retro games that were made based on actual hardware. TBH, most of it is the coolness of someone finally digging through all the crap (including literally inspecting decapitated chips to figure out what they were, emulating undocumented hardware features, etc.) to do full emulation, which was elusive, as more and more of the physical consoles have been biting the dust.
