Athlon II x4 631 or Core i5 2400? UPDATE: Getting an i5, Recommend me a mobo?

I definitely agree with spending the extra bucks on the 2500k vs, the 2400. Once you overclock with a cheap air cooler, it goes into a range far beyond the 2400 speeds, which will extend the usable life of the system for a bit longer.

I take it P67 is IB ready with a BIOs update right? Sorry if its a stupid question.

According to this a P67 chipset should support IB but this is merely a speculation and could be false. Your best bet with IB compatibility is with a Z68 motherboard instead. The Z68 will require a BIOS update if you are swapping to an IB. I do think that it is worth the a little bit extra for the Z68 motherboard as it will be able to use the IGP and in IB, the IGP in IB will have quite an improvement over SB.

Unless you buy/sell all your computer parts within 6 months, don't buy for future compatibility as you'll have to buy a new motherboard otherwise.

Also, IB is the 'tock' and only a die shrink of SB. Performance won't increase as much as the 'tick' part which is arch update rather than die shrink.

Now, if we could get a nice ATX FM1 board for ~$70-$80 it might be different ball game...

With so much of the goodness on the CPU why do the boards cost so darn much? I'd like to do a Llano HTPC build but I can go i3-2100 for the same price, at which point I really have to start thinking about it.

Come on, AMD, give me an excuse to buy into your platform...

Actually he bashes on amd pretty good. the 631 just looks like it could be a budget enthusiasts dream come true. (Emphasis on the word could.)

I think it still needs to be $15-$20 cheaper before it's very exciting.

Right now it has to compete with i3/Penitum/Celeron SB's on H61 and cheap Z68 boards which to me, at least, makes it look much less compelling.
