i'm gonna do some more math for you all:

dual channel ddr2 533 should offer 17.2gb/s memory bandwidth in dual channel mode

8.6GB/clock x 1024k / 128bit/clock X 2bits/clock = 133mhz the the effective speed of ddr2 533 with 7.5ns chips

of course this asumes ddr2 has a 128bit bus as a single module



i would like to think of the socket 940 as a perfect backwards compatible socket
amd would be able to offer both budget socket 462 athlons as well as opteron server and athlon64 desktop cpu's all able to use the same socket

this covers all market segments with the same socket not to mention the easy trasition from socket 462 to 940 and support for newer memory technologies
