Athlon FX-53 / 30% performance increase in FAR CRY rumoured!!

I saw this at Xbit Labs today

According to a report from Germany-based web-site tecCHANNEL, AMD is demonstrating the Athlon FX-53 central processing unit in a system with a beta version of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for Extended Systems installed. According to AMD, the AMD64 technology allows to boost performance in Far Cry game by about 30%, although, no actual speed figures are given.

I'll care more when (if!) it's the Doom or Unreal engines showing this level of difference.

intel and AMD have been playing the "hand optimize one showcase application" game for at least a decade, it doesn't prove anything about what typical performance increases will be since:
(a) they usually pick an application that the other side hasn't been optimized for.
(b) after the one PR win, they don't offer the same free optimization help to other developers.

FAR CRY is one of the best looking fps demo IMO.

I'm surpised you haven't even heard of it,ther's a lot of talking here in AT for this amazing demo.
And as you can understand it brings a rig to its knees due to the amazing graphics of it.
I suggest you download it if you are a gamer of course.

You're right, I'm not arguing with what you're saying, this can be a marketing policy that is carefully planned all the way.
Still I find these rumours pretty fascinating. I mean, 30% !! in Far cry, a game that I suspect that you've seen...
If this holds some true in it, then I believe Athlon FX-53 will show us some of its amazing capabilities pretty soon.
And I'm confident that engines like Doom3 and HL2 will be boosted too.

30% over the IA32 implementation of it I assume.

Yes that's correct and I mentioned it in the beggining.

Sorry to have to break this to you, but 30% performance gains using that silly 64-bit stuff are irrelevant.

And I know that because Intel said so.

A grand for what? There isn't much in the way of 64-bit programs, but once a consumer lvl 64-bit windows comes around what exactly is it you mean about spending a grand? For the CPU? This is showing the gain of 64-bit not one processor in specific.

It's not sarcasm. I really didn't know WTF it was.

Remember X-Isle or the Crytek demos from back in the day? Those were Far Cry in its early days.

I highly reccomend you download it and check it out. Looks like it could end up being better then HL2 or DooM3- No joke. Visually it is hands down the most impressive playable game I've seen yet, even if it is just a demo. Final product should be shipping within a month(unlike the other two, it is pretty obvious FarCry is close to done). Far Cry has been replacing the others for the most anticipated title spot.

Cmon man, am I supposed to believe Intel over this?
Of course this might be just a rumour, but what do you expect him to say? Well done AMD?
And this does not only apply on this matter of course, but 64-bit application in general.
I remember Intel stating that 64bit is useless and look at the situation now. Sure, this is a macro prospect for end users like us, but NOONE is able to estimate things like that. And IMO AMD has a competitive advantage right now.
It's marketing. Nothing more nothing less. That applies to AMD too of course.
And these words are coming from an Intel user

Damn you're clever!! It is worse than a crime: it is a mistake.
The cynic never grows up, but commits intellectual suicide.

Actually Doom III ships before E3, which is in May.
