i'm looking for a really quiet athlon fan, one capable of keeping a 1700+ cool. any suggestions?

Alpha pal 8045 w/ 80mm panaflo, about 22db. Should be quieter than the p4 fan. I have both the retail intel heatsink/fan on my 1.6a and the pal8045 on my 1800+.

hmmm... you know i've been planning on doing the same thing to my mcx462, but haven't gotten around to it yet. good idea!

anyone have a slightly less expensive idea?

Yes that works well, I did that with my Swiftech 462... well close to it... I made my Delta 80MM run off 7V and its rather quiet now and still has major airflow. And still runs 10C cooler then with the retail heatsink.
