Or you can look under the edge of the case and see if you can see cache chips.

Look at the serial number

if it's a Tbird it reads AMD-A1000..., itf it's a classic it reads AMD-K7100...

wcpuid is easier though :)

if u pop open the casing, it will have a thunderbird logo inside. also, if you have a slot a athlon near it, it will have a different color from it, ull be able to tell.

or u can just try wcpuid

Or, you can just look at the cache size during boot - 512 = classic, 256 = tbird

my L2 cache says 512. I guess i paid for an athlon classic....darn.
Is there much difference between the classic and t-bird at 1GHZ?
And is there anyone out there making the thunderbird in a SLOT A casing?

Errr, meant to say "run", not "ruin". I don't have any figures handy, but I'm sure you can find some articles benchmarking the differences. That said, I would definitely want a TBird if that's what I payed for. Who did you buy it from?

I thought the SlotA processors were K7's and stopped at 1.0ghz. Whereas the Thunderbirds are SocketA only because the cache is on-die, therefore the extra packaging is not necessary. If he has a T'bird in a SlotA package, does that mean there is a "Slotket" of some kind available to run a T'bird on an older K7 board?

Im curious why people don't use the 'Search' function. I remember this question being asked just 2 weeks ago. Saves bandwidth and server space :)

yes they make a limited amt of t-birds in a slot format, I am using one now. The casing has one silver metal side.

I'll tell you exactly why I dont use the search, because it sucks!! Everytime I try it, it says "o" results found. I can't get anything unless I know what it says word for word. You get alot quicker response and less frustration by just asking the question.
