Athlon 750/950 Classic + Soyo Slot A board + CPU HSF for $149/199 @ TigerDirect

Yep, it's TigerDirect again. For those of you who couldn't afford the P4 combo, you might want to jump on this. Seems like a great deal considering the $199 950 combo is less than the lowest price of just the chip on Pricewatch.

Oh, and has anyone seen reviews for this board? It's a Soyo SY-K7VIA.

950 Mhz for $199. Looks like a good price for just the CPU let alone the motherboard. Anyone know much about this motherboard ?

I've used this motherboard in a couple of systems. Aside from the crappy onboard audio, it's a fine board. Too bad it's slot A though. I'm thinking aobut picking myself up the 950 deal, cause I was thinking of upgrading to a p3 800, and for the same price i get an athlon 950mhz and mobo.

sokay price. keep in mind the athlon 950 is say slower than a duron 600 overclocked to 950 🙂

Might as well spend the extra few $$ and get a tbird or duron rig, with a reputable warranty 🙂

I have two of these boards and they are very good boards however, you can only put CLASSIC ATHLONS in them, not T-Birds. The K7VIA is a slot A board. I had an 800 overclocked to 920 in one. Here is another review of the board Here

Side note for Overclockers, I did had a T-Bird running in it but the board automatically set the voltage to 1.80 from the recommended setting of 1.65 and I could not get my Gold Finger device to work with it, thats why I had to OC with the FSB only. Temp monitor programs couldnt figure out what was in it when I had the T-bird running.

Bottom line: Use Classic Athlons and it will be a fine board.

This seems like a good deal to me, considering I just sold my old 500Mhz Slot A Athlon and Asus K7M motherboard on fleabay for $140. I say I got a good deal. 😉

Tigerdirect, for what I've seen, has been a very reliable company. My father has ordered from them more than once, and my neighbor put together a system from them and had no trouble at all. From what I've seen I would recommend them, other than the fact that most of their prices are high.
