Why will MB's be significantly cheaper? It seems to me that they will be more expensive because they will have to accomodate the higher pincount processor and this may require more PCB layers.

It will be ALOT simpler for MoBo-makers to design the MoBo's since they don't have to worry about memory-controller and traces to the memory. The integrated mem-controller makes the Northbridge and it's surroundings alot easier to design (Northbridge and it's surroundings is the most complex location in a MoBo It has traces to CPU, memory, Southbridge... With Hammer, it doesn't need traces to the memory).
