Pretty good price for processor considering it's fairly competitive in performance with Core 2 Duo E6600. Unfortunately the motherboard sucks. Don't even think about getting it to work on a Raid 0 partition with Windows Vista.

I can't wait until the 65nm version of this chip comes out. It should lower the full load power consumption to near Core 2 levels.

Update: Price drop.

That motherboard layout is pure hell. It's gonna be a pain to wire a main power cable to the middle of mobo and the 4 pin at top. Not recommended if you have an Antec P180 or 900...

The free Biostar board is not an enthusiast board but if you don't need or want some of the bells and whistles and just want a solid board, this is a fabulous deal.

Heck, you can get a X1950XT for $130 if you buy the processor too. I would think that would be a warm deal - that's a whole lot of horsepower for ~$400, especially if you are a user that leaves everything stock.

Isn't the AMD X2 6000+ going to be like $215 after the april 9th price drops? Or am I mistaken...

If we can believe this...

Then yes :)

I am holding off on my AM2 purchase for at least a few more days...

Well, they're already selling the x2 3600+ for $65 on newegg w/ a free copy of R6:V, and it's on that list for $69, so you have to wonder how many of these cuts are already pretty much where they're supposed to be.

Well, personally I am aiming at something like the 5200+ @ 65nm. I want something that is low power at idle and can handle HD playback in my HTPC. The pentium 920D that I have now is just too hungry ;)

Hmm...they really aren't THAT much slower than the Intels. Just in some specific instances. So the 6000 is temping at that price
