Athlon 64 v. Opteron 64

Ok, so now that it is clear that AMD overall is a better choice (other than some video rendering capabilities). What do you guys think if of a dual-processor Opteron and plugging in a couple of Opteron 246's vs. getting an Athlon 64 3200+? I know the Opteron's were designed for server use, but would I be able to get good performance using it as a pc and get better/faster results for the video rendering?

Review prior thread here.

Is money a factor? If yes, A64 3200+. If no, you could go for an Opteron system.

Alternately, if money is not a factor, you could get a 3200+ now and later get an A64 X2 as soon as they are available.

Of course, if you really don't do regular multitasking, both the Opteron and the X2 are a waste of money (for now).

cant say it better than this. 😀

It will cost you $350+ more than a 3200+ but it will offer similar performance to dual opterons when you multitask or run multithreaded applications.
