Athlon 64 revision E won't work on some Nforce 3/4 boards

Old news...

There was a followup articlesaying the problem is not that big of a deal. I know for a fact the MSI Neo2 works with rev E chips, as well as various other boards. The Inquirer tends to blow minor issues way out of proporion.

The same thing happend when the Winchester Chips came out, a lot of motherboards would not work untill they came out with a new bios for that chip. This is one of the reasons why I wish they would bring back jumpers for frequency and voltage settings.

MOst specifically Abit and Epox had their heads up their arse according to Nvidia and did not follow the specs that were laid out for them...hence most of the other boards will work even with older bioses still in tact. The Epox and Abit boards need to work out some new bioses, but may be an issue for a person who buys a new venice with one of these boards. There may not be anyway to post properly to even flash the bios. They didn't explain fully if this would be a factor for booting, but since the venice core reviews at xbit showed some boards have minor quirks now, I have to assume these would be more then just minor quirks to gain this type of attention.

To be safe at this time I would avoid buying a new venice core with any Nvidia sckt 939 chipset from Abit or Epox....Who knows maybe bios release will be announced, but one still has to wonder if you will be able to post to flash...

That doesn't surprise me at all. I mean Epox was the one who made boards in the past that violated AGP guidelines and were telling people to remove stray capacitors to make room for large cards.

Wow and here I was about to buy a new Abit mobo because of the fatilitiy edition is known for their OCing but NOT no more! LOL

If you want to overclock you should look at the DFI boards.
