Athlon 64 failure?

So, as it turns out...the answer is indeed motherboard. Swapped procs with an identical setup, still didn't work. Put my proc in another MSI mobo, works great. Go figger :/

I've only bought one MSI mobo, and had to return it (RMA, exchanged for DFI). I won't buy another one.

I agree with MSI mobos. Bought 2 of them and both are scrap in my basement right now.
They work well for awhile and then everything just went dead as you described.
I'm wondering if they use cheap capacitors.

I have had great luck with Abit & Gigabyte boards. Just built an Ausus board that works well also.

My MSI board is acting up now too. Hangs all the time on boot. Considering RMAing. If I do I'm sure this will be my first and last mobo from them.

I've had one MSI it lasted about a year. I don't think I'll ever buy one of those again.

I like MSI boards but I do agree that they don't last long. I've had them die after a year of use. Ofcourse I just ordered a NEO on Friday hoping they had fixed their problems.

Dang! I've been struggling with a Neo K8T FSR for a few days now. Sporadic lock-ups, refusals to shut down, etc. Getting the memory timings right has been a bear, and I'm not sure I've got that fixed yet either. Wish I'ld seen this thread a week ago before I ordered the board.

Well, my first K8T Neo was DOA, no post. I RMAd and recieved a replacement, and so far (three weeks), its been good. I didn't buy RAM on the MSI approved list (though it was Corsair), but it seems to run fine at 2-3-2. Those having lockups should probably back off on timings or increase voltage a smidgen.

Thats random as hell. Have you tried the diagnostic panel included with the motherboard?

I'm having problems with an ASUS K8V Deluxe so don't be so quick to damn MSI, it may be a problem with the VIA platform. I'm going to try different memory settings tonight to see if I can get Windows to load without a BSOD.

I'm also using Corsair XMS PC3200 memory (which is not on the approved list for ASUS either).
