athlon 64 3500+ to e4300 with p35

I'm planning to upgrade from a athlon 64 3500+ am2 with asus m2n-e to a core 2 duo e4300 with a gigabyte ga-p35-s3. Would this be worthwhile. What kind of boosts would I see such as desktop and gaming.

Wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy a faster Athlon64 (X2?) and slot it in to your existing mainboard?

Or a new CPU and Mainboard for around $260?

Without knowing how much you could overclock either CPU... I'd go for the Athlon64...but that's just me...

Id definitly not switch if i had the Am2 board... id just get a x2 3600 for $65 and thats it... U wont even feel anything different from x2 3600 to e4300.... only benchmarks u'd see a few more points for the e4300... i dont think its worth the money u spend for p35 and e4300... when only $65 will give u about 85% of that performance

i agree with anotherguy. make sure it's a brisbane though. plus the 3600's overclock very well. usually get up to high 2ghz range, often hitting 3ghz, which puts them somewhere around an e6600~e6700~x2 6000. all for $65. actually, you can use the same heatsink you're using now (although if it's a crappy aluminum chunk you may wanna upgrade that too...but still...cheap!). regardless, you should actually buy the oem version because i believe the 3600's stock heatsinks are the same aluminum chunks. oem was like $60 when I bought mine a few weeks back at the egg, free shipping.
