I have seen 2 754 socket athlon 3400 cpu's on line. One has a 1 meg L2 cache and one has
512. They are both advertised as 2.20 gig and are the same price. I have an MSI K8T NEO FISR
with an 800 fbs. Both of the cpu's state a 1600 fbs. What's the real skinny on 754 cpu's and boards.
Is my board going to work with any 754 socket cpu or is there a difference.

The 800 listed on your mobo is for Hypertransport. HT is doubled from what ever the clock speed you run your memory at multiplied by the HT multi. So at a FSB of 200 and HT multi of 4x you are at 800 then double that for the HT speed. This is where you see the 800/1600. Yes both of those 754 CPUs will work for you. One is a Newcastle core and one is a Clawhammer.

L2 cache is easy to remember. Clawhammers have 1mb, Newcastles have 512kb.

Clock speed for the Clawhammers is always less than Newcastle.

On the 3200+, Clawhammers are 2ghz / 1mb. While Newcastles are 2.2ghz/512kb
