My computer has locked up a multiple times of late while playing 3D games. When I rebooted after the most recent lock-up, I got a message in the post operation that my CPU temp was too high. What is the normal temperature range for the Athlon 64 3200+ both at idle and under load? It's running at stock speeds by the way.

What temperatures are you getting on load? Try using a monitoring program like SpeedFan or EVEREST...

Idle and Load temperatures an vary greatly depending on the time of year and where you are located, so it's hard to give a set of 'usual values'. In cooler climates, temperatures in the 40's on load are expected, and on hot days or warmer climates, people can expect temperatures into the 50C's degrees. I'd be getting worried if it's reaching over 60C on load - most likely the cause of the crashes.
