Athlon 64 3200+ OEM or Retail

Building my new system and I was going to go with a 3500+, but have listened to everyones advice and I am going with a 3200+ 90nm. I'll be ordering from Monarch Computer for the processor.

Should I get the OEM version or retail? I plan to use an XP-90 heatsink, and will overclock later on, so I know I void the Retail warrenty, but I can warrenty the OEM through Monarch.

The price differences between the two are $187 for OEM and $238 for Retail, but I can add Monarch's 3 year warrenty onto the OEM for an extra $15, making the OEM $202.

I know this gets asked alot, but I searched and couldn't find definitive advice. Thanks in advance for your help.

Is Mwave a respectable etailer? I just checked their site and like their prices, not just on the processor, but also on other stuff.

I'd get the OEM version for that price. You'd have no warrranty for the retail, but with the oem you could get a 3 year warrenty for less than the retail price.

I've bought from mwave without a hitch. They handled returns fine as well. I bought the EPoX and 3200+ combo from them. So far I'm up to 2450MHz at default voltage.

Anyone want to comment on their upgrades to the K8N and the 3200+? I too was once looking 3500 but if I can save $100 and go w/ a 3200 for a very minimum performance difference, I would do it. I may even overclock to 2.2 or so for the hell of it to make me feel better about the loss of 200 MHz...just gotta learn how easy overclocking is on stock everything. I don't wanna screw up or make a sys unstable at all.

Well I'd like to offer that finding the right chip is MUCH easier in person if you can manage. I hunted down a good 3200+ last night by chechking the CPU on the surface which is plainly visible through the box. Right now I'm humming along at 2.6Ghz 10x260Mhz HTT at stock voltage. I just made sure I got the latest week processor and even serial number they had available. Here in Alaska where everything is obscenely overproced I paid $217 for the retail 3200+. I get an awsome chip, a three year warrany; now I just have to sell my 3000+ that does only 2.2ghz
