Athlon 64 3000+ OCing

How well would it overclock with 1 gig Corsair value select 512x2?
I'm planning on going to around 2.2 GHz right now. Is the warranty voiding worth it?

Way beyond 2.2,it used to be on my sig with the same settings until i recieved a 1gkit of corsair twinx as a present.

Overclocking is always a gamble,so i can't say "yes it is worth it".I can tell you that i'm happy though 😉

Value ram won't limit your o/c what so ever. Depending on the chip (luck of the draw) you may get anywhere from 2.0-2.7 most people seem to fall in the 2.3-2.6 range with the 3000+. My 3200+ maxes at 2601mhz. The 2 really key components for overclocking are the motherboard and the power supply.

Do your research here in the forums and make sure you pick a mobo that overclocks well, and get a quality power supply. It doesn't have to be high wattage 500-600 watts, watts aren't the important thing.
Good thermal protection circuitry, stable amperage on the 3 power rails, etc... thats what make a good power supply. Too many people overlook this component in a system and cut corners on cost, or go for flash and high wattage over substance. Stay with the best makers Antec, Fortron, Enermax, PC cooling, Seasonic, OCZ etc... this is the component that everything in your system depends on.

The reason I harp on the power supply is that when you are overclocking everything is amplified and running at higher speeds in your system, the slightest fluctuations in power can cause you system to crash. I can't tell you how many guys I've seen with $$$$$'s invested in their rigs, that can't overclock very well because of their flacky $50 600w power supply

A good quality 400 watt would surfice. One with a solid 24amp or more 12v rail.

You would need to run the ram on a divider. Either 4:3 for 2.2+Ghz or 5:3 for a 2.4Ghz+ over clock. Over 2.5GHz you will likely need to up the voltage on the RAM and CPU.

I just Oc'ed a AMD64 3000+ 939pin.

I'm using a asus ALI board and a mad dog 550w psu 34a on the +12

I had alot of trouble getting even a 3% oc out of it to start. It was my first overclock. I found that I needed to updated the bios to 1003 and lock the PCI bus. After that it was still unstable but it wasnt corrupting my HD anymore.

The single largest change i found worked for me was i unplug the "EZPLUG" from the mobo. MY conclussion is although my PSU is rated for 34a it is weak on the +12V when supplying anything but the CPU.

right now the fsb is at 270*9 = 2430Mhz , thats a 35%

cpu voltage at 1.525v

RAM at 2.70v and 2.5/4/4/10 timing

Its good mushkin Lv2 pc3200

these new amd cores have alot of headroom, i recommend u experiment a bit with a cheap 3000+

Ineresting Find there SeanP! I assume you are using only a single graphics card?

You'll be cutting it close depending on your video card. But only way to find out is to try. It's plausable.

I've got a 3000 with the corsair value ram at 2.53 right now. I upped the voltages on the cpu and ram- probably more than I needed to. I'm at 1.568 vcore. I haven't reached the limits yet- i've been at this oc for a week; soon I'll try to move it up to 2.6.
