Athlon 64 3000/3200+ can overclock as high as the 3500+?

I just got a newcastle 3000+ today. It posted as high as 2.6, playing around with 2.55 right now. Played around with 2.5, seemingly very stable games 3dmark etc.

Duvie,

" 3000+

That runs stable?

Thanks for the help icepik!

Followed your example, put an extra 40 on the FSB, and upon reboot I see a CPU-Z report of 2.4 GhZ. Wow, all without a voltage increase! It's amazing what a general forum like anand's can do for anyone. The free and accessible information, not to mention Megahertz, is amazing!

Thanks again!

btw, after reading the OC FAQ that is sticking I'm a little befuddled on a couple points.

1. When people talk about DRAM divider settings as 200, 166, or 133, is that the same as 5:5, 5:4 or 5:3? If I can make my RAM run stable at 200 will it increase performance?

2. When I set the HT Multipler lower, in this case from 5x to 4x, what am I doing? Slowing the RAM down? If I can make this stable at 5x will it increase performance?

Between overclocking and making my computer silent you end up running out of time to play games. Of course, as a geek, I somehow still get as much, or more, enjoyment out of watching my memtest run stable as I do popping heads in FarCry or running over Orcs in Battle For Middle Earth

vcore:1.55
vdimm:2.7
Prime and memtest stable for >24hrs
Could probably go higher...havent got around to playing with it yet

Just got my final piece for the WC setup and i'm still working on it...

For now...

vdimm:3.41

More to come... It should get near 2700 with "some" easy 😀

Thanks guys, you're a huge help. However I decided to go with the 3500+ Winchester in case for some reason I couldn't overclock well at all in which case it wouldn't be as fast as my current computer. Another reason was that I heard the A8N-SLI Deluxe didn't overclock well (didn't know this when I got it) so I was a little wary and got the 3500+ just to be safe. Lastly, some people "only" got their 3000+ to 2.4 GHz (400 MHz boost) and if I can boost this processor 400 MHz it will reach FX-55 (< don't know if thats a valid theory but it's my ultimate goal because I play some CPU limited games). I don't want to have to water cool to get to FX-55 speeds with a 3000+ or 3200+ either (too expensive and I'm afraid some day it's gonna start a flood!)

I also got a Zalman 7700 AlCu heatsink and Arctic Silver 5 with my 3500+. Wish me luck at overclocking it to FX-55+ 😉. I hope my PQI memory works with it, or else I'll be quite p'd off (at least it's still within the 30 day guarantee by the time my CPU gets here). However, I'll recommend my friends get a different motherboard that overclocks better and use the cheaper CPU's rather than shelling out lots for higher end CPU's still based on the same processes!

I had a vdimm mod on the P4C800 made with a grabber, but on the Msi you need to cut a bridge on the board to run above 3.3. So i bought a OCZ Booster to help me take advantage of the BH-5.

Yes, they are 2x256. Theres no point on P4C and A64 series to run single-channel mod 😉

The 3000+ is 1800Mhz by default, not 2000mhz. It's a 600Mhz boost ! 🙂

If you ask me, right now the 3500+ is a waste of money because the jump from the 3200+ is hugh.
I would rather prefer the 3200+ if the 3000+ was going to be short of expectations.

Both were going to be short of my current P4, probably. The main thing is I just want a PCI Express AMD system (at least a little faster than) my P4. I do video encoding and gaming.

The Winchester 3000+ and the Newcastle 3000+ are different frequencies I think. I better start shoveling snow now or I'm going to be broke 😉.

I think if you get a 3200+ and clock it up around 2600mhz, I think you'll be surprised how well it performs. A 3500+ MIGHT get you a couple hundred mhz more on the top end OC.
Either would be good.
I'd say that either (OCed to 2.6ghz or more) would take a P4 running at 3.38ghz. 😀
*poke poke* lol

not all 3200 will hit 2600...mine for example will run 2600 but is not prime stable....

it is a 0444 xphw

Right, that's why I said "around" in my post. Nothing is guaranteed.

my winny3000+ only goes to 2.0GHz 222fsb w/800HTT for some reason. I think its because of the vid card tho. I'm on a MSI Neo2-FIR K8T800pro and without a way to check, I surmize that the AGP lock is not working correctly. 223fsb causes my video to wig out (all black) when running 3D apps (prime stable) and a system hard lock.

Mines a week 41 3200+ , OEM purchased from Monarch PC, it does 2600mhz prime stable..I have not even tried going further yet.

I figure after another month of use so I really know the system then I will OC some more..the rewards are greater if your patient OCing IMO.

My CPU sure is an ugly mofo too..all scratched up and stuff..see sig. 🙂

I'm thinking of getting an AMD64 system.

I'm looking at the socket 939 90nm 3000+ 3200+ and 3500+

Will I be almost guaranteed of getting the 3200+ to 3500+ speeds, ie from 2.0GHz to 2.2GHz with stock cooling?

My winnie 3000+ is running rock soild on stock cooling at 2.4 and 1.5 vcore. 40C idle/55C load. 4x HTT, with no ram divider. I'm not really going to try and take it any further, but it seems like it could easily enough. A8V deluxe by the way

I've got a question. I have Socket 754 Athlon 64 3200 & Asus K8V SE Deluxe with via k8t800 chipset. Is it possible for me to overclock my CPU higher that is it now @2420Mhz? I updated the FSB to 220 Mhz stable. If I update it to 225 the system becomes unstable in 3d aplication. Can you help me tu push my CPU further please?

you need to lower your multiplier away from the 11X, and to something like 10 or 9....then start increasing the FSB. It should be able to hit 240X10 easily, which is better than 220X10, even with the slighly loss in total mhz.

But with the Multiplier at 9 I will automatically overclock RAM. If I lover it, will I be able to hit 240 FSB without a risk and damaging my hardware?

I've got my 3200+ running at 2.65GHZ very stable on air w/2 fans and XP-90. Week 44. CPU temp 37 deg. Cel. idle
It can bench at 2.75GHZ but it won't last long till it crashes.

Anyone know what's the highest overclocked 3200+?

nice oc flyswatter...I have seen few week 44 do so well..is it prime95 stable

over at extremesystems I have seem some A64 3000/3200..hit upwards of 3.0 ghz on air/watercooled etc....those guys really push their setups

My 3000+ Winnie does 2.7 with 1.4 (stock) mobo won't go any higher though. Temps are about 40 idle and about 57 @100% load.
