Athlon 200GE vs. A8-9600???

I'm continuing to have great difficulty understanding between Athlon 200GE vs. A8-9600. Both received almost identical benchmark score, but A8-9600 has slightly faster graphics than Athlon 200GE.

It's basically Excavator (Bulldozer) vs. Ryzen (Zen) cores. What does Excavator excel at that Ryzen isn't good at?

So, which is better?

A8-9600 belongs to Excavator family, an architecture based on Bulldozer. Bulldozer's evolution is as follows:

Bulldozer (32nm) -> Piledriver (32nm) -> Steamroller (28nm) -> Excavator (28nm)

Athlon 200GE belongs to Zen (14nm) family, which is a brand new architecture that brought Ryzen and Epyc CPUs. Just from this fact alone, Athlon 200GE should be more desirable, but if you need hard numbers AT has tested Athlon 200GE against the A12-9800:

I do not see a table where A12-9800 beats Athlon 200GE. Therefore A8-9600 should not even be close to Athlon 200GE in performance.

Yea stick to the Zen based CPU unless you find a really cheap/used A12-9800.

Are you in the US? What board and whats your budget? The newer 3000 CPUs with Video will be out soon so the 2200G may have a drop in price soon. Another option is like a Quad Ryzen 3 1000 series CPU with a cheap video card.

A12-9800 is already going for less than $39 shipped on eBay. Is it possible to run Bristol Ridge with B450 chipset, and any way to enable it? Sounds ridiculous.

Yea Bristol Ridge runs on AM4 chipsets so the B450 will be fine AS LONG AS the Bios is flashed for Bristol Ridge. Many boards do not have enough room for all CPUs so older ones are removed to make room for newer chips.

I also see that 3000 series APUs are out. Microcenter has the 2200G for $60 right now. That would blow the 200GE, and even more so the A12, out of the water. The Ryzen 2200G should work right out of the box for just about every B450 board out there.

As far as i know, B450 motherboards dosent have BR support. You need a 300 series motherboard.

Unlucky for you, newer BIOSes for B350/B450/X370/X470 boards, are dropping support for Bristol Ridge, to make way for support for 3rd-Gen Ryzen 3000 series CPUs and (2nd-Gen) APUs.

If its not on the list then it has been removed. So no way to add it unless they have a older BIOS that supports it. So don't assume A12/A8s will work as it will not without full listed support.
