I'm an Atheist and I believe that our origin due to Evolution is still a theory. I do believe the creationism is ludicrous and downright laughable.

How do I account for our being here? I don't as I haven't the answer and neither do you or anyone else at this point

I'm shocked that people still can't believe in evolution although with all the testing on insects and pesticides we have a micro evolution right before our eyes....

But u realize that atheism and evolution are absolutely not connected and that most (educated - off course) christian (religious in general) ppl think that the theory of evolution explains the development of the creatures on this planet best?

I am agnostic and understand that I don't know whether or not there's a god and this information will never be discovered and that our origin is probably the same situation. :)

So rather than think about it and argue with others about it, I'll live my life as best I can and try to be the best person I know how to be. :)

Deists always try to bundle Evolution with Atheism but when countered with the Statement "I don't have the answer to our origin" they tend to shut up. Fabricated answers by way of religion aren't real answers in my opinion.

That was the point I was trying to make. But look at the answers in the poll already. Isn't it safe to say, looking at the poll, that the majority of atheists at least here, believe in the theory of evolution? I think so.

It's easier to swallow than some Tolkeinish Creationism Theory.

LOL, "And on the sixth day, God created Hobbits!" :)

Agnostic. Evolution is the best explanation of the facts, but I'm not ruling out the existence some guiding force in the universe(s).

I refuse any label applied to my beliefs because it only serves to osctracize or criticize. Labels are absurd. My beliefs aren't entirely within the bounds of any label, so why accept the "closest match"?

I've been berated by enough christians in the past for not being "close-minded enough" (this was said in an actual conversation), and I've been berated by atheists.

Nothing, to me, is more humorous than listening to someone who "knows" the truth and tries to point out how "wrong" you are. Note, this only applies to that of the metaphysical as, quite obviously, that which is physical can be empirically determined wrong.

because Athiests tend to belive the most credible theory and evolution is by far the most credible theory

If anyone tells me they know for certain the origin of the earth and or humanity I deem them to be insane, stupid, liars, or any combination thereof.

Having said that, theories are ok. But I still hate people that are closed minded in regards to any other possibilities other than their own beliefs which in some cases sound so out of whack I think they belong in the looney bin.

I know not whether there is a god or not, you can believe whatever the hell you like. But don't try and tell me you know for sure yourself.

edit: Almost forgot about the evolution question. Yes I believe in the theory of evolution. But not as an answer to where humanity came from. Even if we evolved from apes, or humans were at one time ape-like. This does not answer where the apes came, evolved from. And if some primordial soup just happened to create life by some chance molecules coming together, then why not for humans as well?

And another thing, why didnt the apes evolve into humans? Why are they still apes? Note this is not a sarcastic comment, or a rhetorical question. I really would like to know if anyone can give a serious answer and or comment on this.

You must find it difficult to make friends then?

I don't think anyone claims to know for sure about anything. We're getting into semantics here but you can't even be sure what you did today you really did and it wasn't just a very well defined deam or hallucination. But I'll bet you're pretty sure it was real.

Anything we "know" in science, unlike what is "known" in religion, is up for modification. If sound evidence or theories seem to be pointing in a different direction, science slowly begins to move in that direction. At any given point, it is not entirely correct, but it is as accurate as possible given what we know.

There is evidence that supports a scenerio not unlike darwin's evolution. It's not just something that someone pulled out of a hat and wrote a few papers on and found a billion cultust followers to start "believing" in. It makes sense. It could be completely wrong. It could be a bit off. But right now, it makes sense.

And so I don't see how you can so severely critisize anyone who believes in this. You could disagree. But I don't walk around saying that people who believe in God are idiots. Sometimes I have that feeling about organized religion. But in terms of personal feelings, I too on some days believe that there is a God. (I voted Atheist, though, because that is usually the case.)

You know what I thought about the second choice in this poll? I didn't think "gee, whoever votes that is such an idiot, look how obvious evolution is" I thought instead "that's neat, I wonder what they think and if they will share it in this thread"
