So basically those with religion are more often criminals, even with the added threat of ending up in 'hell'. And those without religion are less often criminals as they can actually think for themselves and decide themselves what is wrong and what is right to do.

I truly enjoy the bigotry demonstrated by some of the non-Christians here. I'm glad that you're able to bash the Christian faith based on actions which are clearly misinterpretations of God's Word (i.e. Crusades, witch burnings, etc).
 
To be honest, I sometimes have to remind myself people still take this religious crap seriously. It's like reminding myself there are people out there that still believe in Santa Claus. Yes, it's freakin' retarded, but most people ARE retarded. I've lost hope for humanity long ago. People seem to just want to remain stupid, and I'm tired of talking to them. The "innate values" you speak of are not positive morals. Human's "innate values" are to be selfish and stupid. People are basically stupid. Think about it: Parents spend most of their time teaching kids what NOT to do because they always want to do the stupid/dangerous thing first.

Smart people are not "innately" smart, they have simply learned how to control their stupidity better than others.

For example, I am going to assume that you believe yourself to be smart. Think about how many times a day you have to THINK about what to do so you don't do something stupid! That is because stupid comes naturally.

Also, any parent can tell you that you have to spend a great deal of time teaching your kids the "right" thing to do (and that "right" thing may be different from country to country or even household to household).

Romans thought it was perfectly fine to keep slaves and have sex with little boys. That was within their "values". There are people and societies today who do not believe or follow what you call "innate values".

There are no "innate values". There is what we think is OK today versus what we thought was OK in the past versus what we might think is OK in the future (and not everyone will agree with what is OK).

All religions are awesome if you ignore all the negative things (even when many negative things are ongoing).

The biggest problem with religion and the religious (including some of my own) is when they can't just keep their crap to themselves and leave others alone (i.e. Crusades, witch burnings, etc). Christianity has not given up on that, so it has earned, and continues to earn, the bashing.

I think that, for those for whom atheism is a cause, it is no different than any other religion. How does preaching about the lack of a G-d really differ from preaching about the existence of a G-d?

No, I do not think they all sit around and preach about there not being a G-d, but many do.

As for the other things they do at a convention, how does that differ from a convention of a religion?
