original, as in "created, undertaken, or presented for the first time"

Like I said, you have no evidence, and you even admitted that.

you're the one that needs an education

I didn't make the uneducated assertion that the Bible has no supporting archeological evidence, I provided plenty, and you seemingly ignored it.

You're either a liar about "serious historians" dismissing the Bible because of a lack of evidence, or you don't know jack about the history of the Bible.

I'm banking on the latter.

It's like the christian penchant to pick and choose parts of their own religion to follow has magically imbued them with the ability to declare what a religion is (with straight faces).

Fascinating. The disconnect surrounding worship and all the ecumenical trappings that are missing from atheism, even more so.

Keep'em coming guys, these threads are great!

Now, I know about him/her, and knowing is half the battle!
Don't fool yourself...the only battles we face is within ourselves. Some people will sacrifice everything they have for truth...and some prefer to believe lies they tell themselves to make them somehow feel comfortable.

Just to preface this thread, I don't have a problem with "Atheist Churches", especially being a religious guy myself, I can see the benefits, no doubt

But what I have taken issue with is the ignorant hypocrisy as atheists generally seem to hate everything about religion, but they are stealing the "best bits" (oh, the irony) except for God with these new Churches:

http://www.christianpost.com/news/atheist-church-sunday-assembly-opens-in-35-more-towns-127190/

On their official site, them seem to be targeting the socially isolated, lonely, and likely ex-religious cast-offs.

http://sundayassembly.com/blog/2014...oubles-in-size-in-one-day-assembleeverywhere/

Now religion is generally castigated for playing on the emotionally weak and exploiting people, and now some atheists seem to smell the money and are doing the same thing.

:sneaky:

I haven't read the links, will later when I have time. There is no such thing as an Atheist religion and no such thing as an Atheist Church. These folks are either very confused on what Atheism really is or are using the word "church" for either tax purposes or for non profit status or some other political reason.

Atheists are non believers. The only thing that they have in common is not believing in any deity or Deities or theism.. etc.

Maybe they should just call them organizations, clubs, or something like that..lol

and the thing that sets them apart is facts and evidence (or lack thereof)

The faithful believe that the evidence for God's existence is obvious and take His existence on faith, whereas atheists deny such evidence and thus have no such faith. Each side is of the opinion they know what evidence is. The former mistake the nature of logical proof and the second reject any conclusions arrived at as a result of the application of that fallacy.

Thus believers and doubters believe and doubt something that can't be shown to exist and either affirm or deny. But the knowledge of the existence of God is not arrived at in that way. God awareness is a conscious state. In the God conscious state you are not only aware that God exists, but you also know you are aware of it. Thus the religious may believe absolutely that when you hit your thumb with a hammer you will experience pain, but the real knower knows because he has done it.

So what neither side admits to is the possibility of a God conscious state that is self evident as to what it is. Where religions go wrong is that while there is a God, he has a million and not just one name. The Atheists says that if there are a million then there isn't just one. So the god of religion and the gods atheists reject do not exist and never did. Religion and atheism are about nothing but they make a big deal of it.

I don't see why they can't have a church based on delusions. All the other ones do.

There is no such thing as an Atheist "church." In order to for it to be a "church" you have to have an imaginary person you worship. This is an Atheist "club" at the most. If they use "church" to describe their organization, it is most likely to thumb their nose at religion basically saying, "see, I can be tax exempt too just by using a stupid word." Atheists tend to do thing like this to troll religious morons. They're probably laughing thinking people are taking them seriously.

And LOL at the "christianpost." It's like a nutjob honeypot attracting other nutjobs.

They should have the churches. There are benefits to the social aspects of church. This is the good stuff without the fake shit, also, hopefully a nice tax exempt status would be nice as well.

Why would other people have to deal with your delusion? Sounds like that ones on you.

Can you deal with the issue without having to hobble along on your crutches? Absurd comments and trolling don't count.

+1 :)

They should really follow precedent and have some kind of very public Schism first. Its what a proper religion would do.

I myself don't see why the word "church" needs to be used, almost seems mean given the effect it seems to have on some of the actual church people. Isn't there enough out there preying on the dignity and minds of those poor christians? They called dibs on 'church', like they did with 'faith.' Atheists shouldn't even bother, they should be devoting that time to committing crimes and offenses on par with drug dealing rabbis, pederast priests, and pastors who give their congregation AIDS.

Chop chop atheists, get cracking! Kindly emulate organized religion if you would, the adherents of religions who see atheism as a threat desperately need it to feel safe and better about themselves.

The public charter of the Sunday Assemblies:

The Public Charter

The Sunday Assembly is a godless congregation that celebrates life. Our motto: live better, help often, wonder more. Our mission: to help everyone find and fulfill their full potential. Our vision: a godless congregation in every town, city and village that wants one.
We are here for everyone who wants to:

  • Live Better. We aim to provide inspiring, thought-provoking and practical ideas that help people to live the lives they want to lead and be the people they want to be
  • Help Often. Assemblies are communities of action building lives of purpose, encouraging us all to help anyone who needs it to support each other
  • Wonder More. Hearing talks, singing as one, listening to readings and even playing games helps us to connect with each other and the awesome world we live in.
The Sunday Assembly

  1. Is 100% celebration of life. We are born from nothing and go to nothing. Let’s enjoy it together.
  2. Has no doctrine. We have no set texts so we can make use of wisdom from all sources.
  3. Has no deity. We don’t do supernatural but we also won’t tell you you’re wrong if you do.
  4. Is radically inclusive. Everyone is welcome, regardless of their beliefs – this is a place of love that is open and accepting.
  5. Is free to attend, not-for-profit and volunteer run. We ask for donations to cover our costs and support our community work.
  6. Has a community mission. Through our Action Heroes (you!), we will be a force for good.
  7. Is independent. We do not accept sponsorship or promote outside businesses, organisations or services
  8. Is here to stay. With your involvement, The Sunday Assembly will make the world a better place
  9. We won’t tell you how to live, but will try to help you do it as well as you can
  10. And remember point 1… The Sunday Assembly is a celebration of the one life we know we have
What should you expect from a Sunday Assembly event?

Just by being with us you should be energised, vitalised, restored, repaired, refreshed and recharged. No matter what the subject of the Assembly, it will solace worries, provoke kindness and inject a touch of transcendence into the everyday.
But life can be tough… It is. Sometimes bad things happen to good people, we have moments of weakness or life just isn’t fair. We want The Sunday Assembly to be a house of love and compassion, where, no matter what your situation, you are welcomed, accepted and loved.
Most of all, have fun, be nice and join in.

Seems pretty darn secular to me.
