I only get Christmas off but its treated like a civil holiday in the government and I suspect lots of places of employment. Most christians and religious folks in general are self believing its the folks that are uncomfortable with you not believing what they do like radical islam and radical christians that can kiss my poon tang.

Also there are 5 full time religious channels and many part time show on cable in my area so I think the atheist on line channel ain't going to hurt anyone.

To be fair there is at least one online dictionary that defines evangelical in a way that's not related to Christianity; but definitions 1 - 4 are: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/evangelical

That being said I agree, the proper word is zealous.

In the end it all boils down to extremism, whether atheism or theism.

Oh, I agree. I've yet to meet a atheistic zealot, while theist zealots can be found easily.

To those theists who have a problem with atheist's with zeal, reference Matthew 7:5, it's merely a reaction to the world we live it which is very theist oriented.

So the word evangelical, being of religious nature, is used frequently enough to denote a non-religious context, so included as definition #5 in their online database.

Not really a big deal, but is telling of the influence of religion on our society.

I personally wouldn't use it in a non-religious context, as it's a religiously affiliated word to me. Zeal is really what they mean.
