i just bought a plextor 16/10/40 (on backorder at buy.com)....they have the ATAPI version....most other companies sell the EIDE version of the same drive....

what is the difference between ATAPI and EIDE? which is better? thanks!

Generally EIDE and ATAPI, to all intents and purposes, are the same. EIDE covers two standards, ATA and ATAPI. ATA (AT Attachment) refers to hard drives, while ATAPI (AT Attachment Packet Interface) is used to refer to CDROMs, CDRWs and DVDs.

No difference...they are the same.

cool...thanks....

although staples may give me a LOT of trouble in trying to pricematch an ATAPI with an EIDE.... 🙂
