ATA-RAID cards and Linux

Hello there,

does anyone here have experience with hardware ATA-RAID cards and Linux? I've recently had some experience with products from Promise (FastTrak TX2000), but I'm not satisified with the drivers and the card itself. Currrently my eye is on 3ware, has anyone tried those and the open source driver in linux kernel distribution? what about their propietary driver?

Most if not all promise cards are not hardware raid. Ive heard good things about 3ware, I would personally love to own a card or two from them.
