ATA-133 Information

Hi All,

Just some info you may/may not be interested in.

Maxtor say the address bus issue with ATA-133 being a 48-bit address bus, and ATA-100 having a 28-bit address bus will be overcome (with Windows 2000 anyway) with Service Pack 3.

For people looking for an ATA-133 RAID 5 card, the response I received from Promise said they are planning to release one, but didn't specify a release date.

Speed will be probably marginally faster. But the address bus capacitiy of an ATA-133 controller is 144PB, that's around 144,000,000 GB, whereas the ATA-100 has a limit of 137GB!!! Obviously, this 144PB limit won't be reached for sometime, and no doubt superior technology will be developed before it's limits are realised. Maxtor has a 160GB ATA-133 hard drive now! I wonder what's instore for the future on this standard?
