I have a harddrive and it says ata 133
Im getting a mb and just noticed it said ata 100
willl they work together??

thanks

Apparently the speed of ata 100 and 133 wont make a difference because of the drives themselves. What hasn't been answered is why do they have Seriell ATA 150 if 133 PATA is useless compared to 100? So yea because motherboard manufacturers didn't want to lease the interface from maxtor (rights), they have decided to stick with ATA 100.

There's no difference between ATA 100 and 133, really. The interface itself does not increase performance on your common 7200RPM drives. The only drives that would require more bandwidth are things like Raptors (probably why they're SATA 150).

The reason SATA is 150 and SATA II is 300 is because eventually SATA is suppose to try to replace SCSI if it will or not is another thing. So the drives could potentially be in huge arrays and the cables will need to be able to sustain that. As of now there is no reason because its a relatively new technology and they arn't close to getting it to where it needsto be to compete in the server level market. But you need to start somewhere. It is also has to do with marketing. I also belive Some RAID 0'd Raptors can have peak transfer rates above 133. Obviously not for very long but still...
