By the way, i cant remember for sure, try checking the Anandtech FAQ's, but IIRC, this problem was sometimes caused by 2 problems.
1) The positioning of drives on the cable, and there jumper settings
2) Old drives not being able to work with other drives on the same channel
I cant remember for sure but i know there were people experiencing problems due to this.
You should try each drive seperatly on individual channels as masters, then add one and reboot, try different setups etc etc, then find out what could be the problem that way
