i want to add a ATA 100 card to my setup in WIN2k im a little scard cause last time i did this i currupted my Boot Order on my HD and lost all my stuff so can i hook up a controller card and just hook up my hard drives im not booting off of and my cd roms

The Instructions should come with the card, Load the card and ATA 100 drivers first with a previuos install, reboot, but change the IDE to the ATA card first and you should be good to go.

Just make sure the boot order is the way that you wanted in your motherboard BIOS and things should be fine. Perhaps your controller card defaults itself to boot first??

The ATA 100 has it's own bios and will be recognised during boot up, just follow the basic rule IDE 3 + 4 master and slave, you'll want to hook it up to IDE 3 Master for bootup, make sure boot other device is selected in you bios, you might have to choose scsi first. As the ata 100 is listed as a scsi controller in windows.

by the way this is a promise ata 100 card and the only thing i want on it are my storage drives and dvd and cd rom

as far as i know that should be fine. i have that card but i'm booting off of it. if your boot drive is still on the motherboard's ide then don't tell the bios to boot off scsi like you would if you were booting from the card. as long as the bios knows where to boot from you should be good.
