I have a 3 years old 300w power supply with a ATX connector but no AT12V connector and I want to connect it with my new MSI K7N2-L. Now my problem is that my power supply doesn't have AT12V connector but my mobo need one. I've search in anandtech Nforce2 December 2002 Roundup and it seems that only 2 mobo out of 6 have it. Now do I need a new power supply? Or is it correct to run it without AT12V connector..I'm running a 2100XP and i dont want to damage it!

PS: for those who wonder by looking at my system sig...this computer is for my father..not me!

you should be able to get an adapter which will convert one of your psu molex connectors to the 12V connector!

Have you actually tried running the computer without the ATX12V connector?

It probably will work OK as it is an Athlon system.

If your mobo has the ATX(12v) connector you should use it, some mobos will not power up without it. Mobos that use the 12v connector take a large load off the +5v and +3.3v lines. Using the 12v connector the mobo uses DC-DC convertors to convert the 12V to the cpu voltage. You need a combined 150-180 watts on the +5v and 3.3v lines to be safe. I'd get a new PS if I were you.
