This is a snip off a thread on MMO champ forums, interesting idea.

I'm bored of Alliance vs Horde and would rather have a neutral/one-factioned game now. This would give players access to all cities/areas/quests, and would make each race feel more unique: for example, right now people see Undead and just think "Horde" instead of the "Forsaken" faction. Horde & Alliance wouldn't have to team up, hold hands and be best friends to save the world, I just want some neutrality. It would also help PvEers to make groups, as they'd have access to the whole player base and not just half of it. World PvP would probably be over, but when was the last time it was good anyway? Battleground would still work fine, and the queues would be even shorter, as instead of finding 10 Alliance then 10 Horde, it could just pick the first 20 people to queue and assign them to a team. This would also make adding new races simple. I know this will NEVER happen though.

Buddy of mine got me to sell my soul and resub my WoW account that hasn't been active for 7 years or so. Getting to know my way around again, got a bunch of UI addons installed (many familiar - it's amazing how little some things change, many not). Quick question, anyone know what mod is giving me the two items I have circled below?

They're both basic Blizzard UI elements now.

The left is the Party/Raid unit frame options for placing the marks.

The top right is the default on buff consolidation option.

Thanks, and thanks waggy. They've added some much to the UI that was previously an addon that's it's tough to tell. 😛 I did figure out how to remove the buffs (seems unnecessary), but do like the quick party/raid icons.

Later Vanilla yes, early vanilla no. MC DBM was not up, it was being built. During NAxx it was finally be tried to work, however still had kinks as back then bosses didn't exactly have set timers on abilities, just a range of times.

CT raid assist and boss mods was the main boss mod in vanilla. Vendetta was made only later.

Raids less constricting? There is a few different ways to beat some of the current bosses, and back then some of the bosses you had to follow a set course or you failed. It is no different. However it was just deal with 1 mechanic or another. Not 3-5, which when you ahve 40 people. Is a joke, the more people, the more different mechanics you can put in to make a fight interesting.
They are were less constraining, yes. Adding more mechanics constrain the options players have to solve problems. Heck, most bosses we have today have the tank switch/stay away from others requirement and that takes away a large amount of options from players.

Outside ragnaros, no MC fight was "fun", and outside maybe 2? Like garr and what not, you couldn't really change the winning strategy, as there was no real other way to deal with a boss.
There were definitely many different ways you could approach bosses. Because there were no enrage timers (another constraint blizzard likes to impose these days), you could tailor your composition for zerg strats or heal strats or balanced strats. Most of the fights had 2-3 mechanics max, which is what allowed people to apply different strategies to a boss.
However even on top of all that, I would put Ulduar, t14 and t15 much higher on the "interesting raid" list than vanilla raids. Because to keep things interesting you have to introduce new/different mechanics, which does mean putting in a complex one here or there. Even though most the mechanics, even in t15 are a joke IF you know how to handle it. (LFR and lei shen is a great example)
This is exactly what I mean. Every fight must have 5+ mechanics. It seems like blizzard is putting mechanics in there just for the hell of it. At this point, it feels like you're spending all your time dealing with the mechanics every single second.

And just how simple were vanilla raids? As someone pointed out healBOT, the addon used to PLAY your character for you. You could just sit back and watch and it would literally play for you. All you had to do was press the button(s) it told you to. That is way too simple. Then blizzard banned bots, and healbot had to change from an addon that played for you, to basically just another raid frames UI/macro addon, that is inferior to other choices.
Yes, and you'd rather have complicated dps rotations that force people to install macros and look at bars and buttons almost as much as healers do.

It's interesting to see WoW now after taking such a long hiatus. They certainly made leveling absurdly noob friendly and rapid. I played in the WoW beta and then from Day 1 of retail till just after Naxx came out in a progression raid guild with every server first to the date of my quitting (not one of the brighter points in my life 😛) and it's like I'm playing a completely new game now (which is actually kinda nice).

Apparently there's some "big unannounced feature" we'll see in 5.4

GC says "I think players will know it when they see it."

??

"Last" patch of every expansion usually has something big.

BC - They attempted a lot more phasing via sunwell island dailies to see if it will work + PvP que from anywhere
Wotlk - Looking for dungeon finder
Cata - Raid finder
MoP - ???

He also said a while back they had a big unannounced feature that will add "tons" more content, that will be released in 5.4

Question, I've installed Wow on numerous Windows machines and always moved my addon folder to each clean install to keep my interface intact.

I am now installing wow on my Macbook and it will be the first time gaming on it, will my method of moving the addons folder work or will I have to completely start fresh in setting it up? Is there a different place I should be looking up Mac specific addons?

so the new content...

After you claim Razor Hill, there's a weekly quest to collect 150 mats in 4 different areas of the barrens, or 600 mats.

Do they really expect everyone to draw that out over the course of a week? Seems like one giant mega-daily to me, worth 200 valor.

Going to try Vengeance cap at 30% health (down from 100%) in 10s and 50% of health in 25s. This is a big change, so might be 5.4, not 5.3.
