WoW Down to 6.8 Million Subscribers
Blizzard had their Q2 2014 earnings call today, announcing that WoW is down to 6.8 million subscribers. This is down 800k from the Q1 2014 call that listed WoW at 7.6 million subscribers.

There was a decline in subscribers quarter over quarter, which was disproportionately concentrated in the East and was similar to the seasonal decline experienced during the second quarter of 2012, prior to the launch of the most recent expansion later that year.

This November marks the 10-year anniversary of World of Warcraft, and we’re cooking up a few in-game plans to commemorate the occasion. Here’s a quick preview of what’s in store:

Tarren Mill vs. Southshore: The Rematch
If you engaged in PvP early on in WoW, you might have fond memories of—and perhaps a few scars from—the endless tug-of-war between Horde and Alliance players at Tarren Mill and Southshore. To recapture that feeling, we’ll be opening a Team Deathmatch–style Battleground based on that timeless struggle. However, unlike the old days of Tarren Mill vs. Southshore, there will be a clearly defined victor, so you’ll need to work as a team or face crushing defeat.

Molten Core Gets Boosted
Molten Core provided many WoW players with their first taste of WoW raiding. For the anniversary celebration, max-level players will be able to participate in a special 40-player Raid Finder version to relive the experience of hunting down Ragnaros and his minions within his fiery lair. Downing the Firelord will earn you an Achievement and a special Core Hound mount reward (fireproof leg armor not included).

Corgi-licious
Anyone who logs in during the 10-year anniversary event will also be able to claim a feisty, fiery new pet: the Molten Corgi! Just think of the corgi-parade potential when you and your friends summon these wee waddling balls of fire for a walk.

These events and rewards will only be available for a limited time, so make sure to check back with us later for more information on when you can expect to see them in-game. ‘Til then, we’re looking forward to celebrating 10 epic years with you!

It looks like the Alliance Chopper may cost 100k gold. It is the only item sold by Paulie.

Warlords of Draenor - Mount Journal UI
Speaking of new mounts, Warlords of Draenor has added some nice upgrades to the mount UI:

The journal now lists a source and description for mounts.
You are now able to set mounts as favorites, putting them at the top of the list.
There is a new Summon Random Favorite Mount button, which selects a usable mount at random from your favorites.
Mounts that are faction specific now have a different background in the list.

I quit back in April

Molten Core LFR sounds awful

You probably like picking flowers up as a hobby. Raids are intense, esp when an asshat is around. "Thanks guys, I got my prize; I got to go to bed now! Good luck with the rest!"

Molten Core was my first ever raid and man, I had some good times in there. Of course that was with my first big guild and it was a really fun group of people. Many of them no longer play, or are on different servers, different factions. It will still be cool to go back to it for old memories and I'm excited for it, but it won't be the same with out all my old guild friends around. :(

/sigh

Went to some old raids this weekend to complete some quest and do some pet farming. Hit serpent cavern first, got 2 of 3 pets and all the tier 5 tokens. Had such great luck finished it up with tempest keep, got the remaining tier tokens completing my tier 5 set but no pets or mounts. Had not tried soloing these in MoP yet and found it pretty much without challenge, just had to dismiss pet on the elf.

Will be interesting to hear the release date this week. Some are saying these enhanced anniversary events are a post launch celeration to keep the game hype high, I think they may be used as a launch lead up event.

Im guessing it will all be pre xpac. They want to get people back in the game before launch to help move the xpac. I am thinking mid October for release.

Anyone having issues with crashes lately? It appears to have started with one of the last wow or battle.net patches. At first I thought it was my GPU but I stress tested it with success. Also, I don't hvae problems with any other games. I even rolled back my drivers to no change. I'm not sure what else to do not short of not playing.

My WoW hasn't crashed in like a year. Last time it crashed, I was on an old GPU and I had somehow enabled DirectX 11.

Switching back to DX9 in WOW seems to have solved it. I've been running in DX11 mode for ages so something has changed, though I can't figure out what. I figure it must be either a driver issue or a bug introduced recently. I have no problems with other games and my GPU just survived a torturous hour of Unigine benchmarking with zero difficulties so I blame a recent patch.
