Because they don't have boredom in China and India?

Some jobs don't require on demand progress all day. I may neff most of the day, but I am not slacking. I just don't have enough work to do and my employer doesn't care. It's a don't ask don't tell policy.

In my position if you bust your ass to get things done ahead of schedule and don't dick around you are rewarded with time spent for organization, future planning, and a lot of emails sent to slow people asking "What's the status of this I'm ready to move forward..."

I may not post a lot but there is always an ie7 tab dedicated to atot throughout the day.

yup same here. This morning i had a request labeled 'urgent'. Finished it in about 35 minutes and now it's a waiting game til i get another request in. I work with what they give me. I can only ask for so much additional work before they start to question if my contract is useful to renew. I think contributed to my contract not getting renewed this year. I was asking for too much work. I know that sounds stupid, but that's how it is.

It's not stupid. It's staying out of spotlight. My situation is a little different though. I have a job in the school district as a programmer. No one is making more or less money based on my progress. It's all just about getting the job done and getting it done well.

Sure did, all day when I had a job. Wasn't my fault... they made me surf so hard that I ran out of things to read.

When I've got work, I don't post.

Right now, I've got one project, that I don't have everything I need for, that I can finish in a day. It's due on the 18th.

used to, but then i quit. now my new job has me busting my ass :( oh well at least i'm gaining good experience and knowledge.

with my last job it was mainly an issue of me reorganizing and streamlining procedures to the point where i didn't have to work all day. even when i had them switch me to part time, with a raise, I had a big gap in the middle of the day where i didn't have to do much.

There are weeks where I am ridiculously busy, then days like this where it's just blah all day long. And when it's blah, I wish it was busy, but when it gets too busy, I wish the work would just go away.

today's actually hella slow.

we had a huge, gigantic tour yesterday with people worth more money than I'll ever make in my lifetime sitting around a table dickering about stuff, and a relatively small tour this morning, and now everything's just status quo for the rest of the day (aka: surfing the net hoping nothing crashes)

So geeky it hurts. That is very impressive work though :D

why not type it then print it out? wouldn't that save a ton of time (not that you don't have enough on your hands it seems) but it would also cut down on people not being able to read your writing.

We print out the adhesive labels by the sheet (30 labels per sheet I believe). So, I have a couple sheets of blank labels on my desk, and I just grab them and fill in the ID/PW info as needed and stick it on a user's laptop.

being paid to play AOE > paid to nef (albeit not by much, since we're both being paid to do stuff we like)

The funnier part is that you actually take pictures of your @ symbols.
