I have a g/way perf. 500 machine. It came with w/98/se. I have since upped it to w2k/pro. (and if anybody's thinking of upgrading to w2k by all means do it!)
My problem is, when I turn my hp p1000 printer off, I get the warning that I have lost the connection to the printer.
What I need to know is if this normal in w2k?
I have the latest drivers and have tried 3 new cables:confused:
Any ideas? Please share'em....thanks,tom

I'll try it when I get home, but I can say that if I power off my cable modem I will get a "lost connection to network" message. I would say that it appears to be a built-in message at this time, but will check later.

I don't get a warning when I shut off my HP 970 printer in Win2000. Are you using print sharing or something? If it thinks you are on a network it might warn you that you've lost your connection to the printer if you turn it off.

No,Not shared, no network nobody uses this system but me. I've seen that yellow triangle a couple of times before and just hit check connection and all was good- now it just won't find it.

Tried my printer here at home (a USB connection, however) and simply turning it off generates no warning message. Is there a chance this isn't a Win2K message per se but rather a message generated by some HP Software you have running in the background?

good point slikkster, that might be the problem, in win2k no matter what i turn on or off, wheter its usb or not, it never gives me a message except for my network cable. so it might be some hp app
