At what point will we see affordable *low-latency* 8GB kits on two DIMMS?

Are these produced at 32nm? What about 16GB DDR3 kits on two DIMMS? WHEN will these be available and when will they hit mainstream prices?

I ask because a friend of mine with too much money "wants" 16GB of DDR3 RAM for a build he's planning in December. He can't be convinced otherwise. The funny thing is the only thing he does is play WoW.

Edit: Found this two DIMM 8GB kit. and this 16GB four DIMM kit. No DDR3 though.

For Nehalem and it's tri-channel DDR3 memory, you can get 12GB by using three 4GB DIMMs.

What OS is he running? Vista Home Basic x64 is limited to 8GB of RAM, and Home Premium x64 is limited to 16GB of RAM. I think only Ultimate and Business will handle 128GB of RAM.

8GB FB DIMMS (DDR2) have been available for a while. 8GB DDR3 is going to be really expensive. Does he play golf too?

lol good luck with that. 32nm isnt going to be out till late next year, that much ram is going to be expensive as hell, and you dont need more than 2GB of ram for WOW to run smooth. tell him to spend the extra $$ on a better graphics card and an intel MLC SSD.

Thanks for the replies so far. 🙂

This guy has got more money than brains I guess. Good call on that Intel SSD, that should be out by the time he builds.

your welcome good sir. that will be $3000US. im sure your friend would be happy to pay for my good advice
