Actually, the logic is If you Dems (and check the names!!!) were actually against it, then it wouldn't have passed at all. Your BEST and STRONGEST Democrats voted to renew this act. And please note the original vote was nearly 100%
The part of the logic that fails me is how you Dems/Progs can shit all over Repubs for passing this act that so massively undermines personal freedoms and people's privacy; and yet the biggest names of your faction/party are making damned sure it passes.
You really don't understand how this works, and apparently don't want to, either.
The Patriot Act would have expired w/o congressional action. Repubs refused to allow changes that would soften it. More than anybody else, they want to expand it. Rather than risk being painted as terrarist! coddling soft headed libruhl bleeding heart mooslim sympathizers, Dems voted en mass to extend the act for 1 year.
That's not hard to understand, unless, of course, the intent is to put Dems in a bad light no matter what..
Firstly: The intent is to rub the Dem's noses in their own hypocracy: If you guys hate it so much
(and it *is* one of the biggest piece of shit bills ever), and you have the majority then you clearly could/should have changed it as you see fit.
With a Majority in both houses, the Democratic Party could easily have stopped it, or amended it, or forced whatever changes they wanted. The Repubs want to Filibuster?? Fine - Let the measure die and write a proper one. The Dems have a majority in both houses,
and they have the Presidency. So they can ram anything through if they really wanted it. But They didn't do that, did they? They didn't even bring it to the floor of either house, did they?? No - They fucked over the American People AGAIN - Arm In Arm with the very faction you assholes hate so much. That's right: The Democratic Party's strongest/best/brightest
voted for this act. LOOK AT THE NAMES.
It comes up for renewal again, and what happens? It doesn't even go to the floor. It passes a fucking Committee, and gets handed over to President Obama, who signs it
(Veto Much?), and extends it for another year. Gee.. Thanks...
Oh - And by the way: They passed the
ORIGINAL version, and didn't even include the changes the committee came up with.
