At what point does verbal abuse warrant a physical response?

In ancient times, I would have slain you on the spot with my scythe for asking such a stupid question.

Does it ever? How much? Is it ever okay to kill someone for what they said?

Yes.

Depends on your patience and tolerance levels.

I guess if they said "I killed your entire family and had my way with their corpses." Other than that, probably not if you're a regular person in society. Or unless you're in prison and Bubba comes up and tells you to give him your cornbread. Then it's on.

Any bad reference to my mother would do it.
Let me edit by saying that killing should only be a response to a physical threat to my life or someone's that I love. IMO

It wouldn't take much for me. But why even try finding the limit on anyone? I hate these people who just peck and peck and push buttons, and know they're doing it and then are surprised when someone beats them down.
Keep your mouth shut, and you won't get hurt or sued.

To teach the offender a lesson? there are many reasons, just wondering which are justifiable.

i don't think that would work, if someone likes to run their mouth, beating them up isn't likely to change that

You are gonna sue someone for insulting you? 😕

No, but in these crazy times you can sue people for wailing on you even after you provoked it. I was just showing both sides.

You shouldn't be "wailing" on someone for words anyway....

Ideally, yes. But this society obviously isn't ideal at the moment.
