Sometimes I wonder if he just got the status because he was a martyr after the whole unauthorized PC usage debacle. As it stands now, somebody on the moderating team likes him, otherwise somebody as blatantly trollish like him would (could, rather) never stick around for so long.

From what I remember, Elite status is given without any consideration of what the unwashed masses think. Also, many Elite members were, ah, grandfathered in, so to speak.
