i'm in a small 1 bedroom in nyc. few hd channels, dvds here and there, but lot of xbox gaming, xbmc use.

i can get this Sony Set for a little less than $1000.

I'm all about picture quality, and for the money, i feel this is a great tv.

all opinions, but not flames welcome.

I got a sony wega but regretted it after I found out what was possible with a projector even in a small room.

With only 11' of throw distance I have an amazing 16:9 76" image that looks great for DVDs and very good for standard tv too. HD scales nicely to it also (it's only ED)

I got it for less and $1000 too. (Infocus 4805)

I just pretend I do 😛

I will never again buy another expensive TV. Projector all the way for me as well. I'm waiting on 1080P DLP or LCD front projector for cheap. ~$1500.

Get the sony, you won't regret it. Projectors, you will have to replace the bolb every so often dependings on much you use it. Also, projectors are very nice and all but it just look as good a tube.

I'm sure it's got good picture quality.

That said Sony would be about my last electronic company choice. And I also wouldn't be caught dead paying $1000 for "only" a 30" TV. HDTV or not.

I'm more for 50% real estate over a bit better image quality for the same price.

But if you're happy, more power to you.

Can't you get the Sanyo 30" WS at Walmart for under $600? I've read that's pretty decent CRT HDTV for the price.

Bulbs last approximately 3000 to 4000 hours. That works out to about 10 cents an hour for bulb cost. Well worth it imo.

Oh, and you do of course need to have a room that will have light control and there are other factors to think about.

Projector Central and AVSforum are great places to learn about HT stuff.
