no one ever told me, not one of the many salesman that i talked to, that they charged for data in text and picture messages. in fact, when i asked, they told me it was free no matter what. so they charge for the message AND the data sent, that is pure bs. If i had known i would never have sent pictures or texts at all.

i mean, wtf is the point of the 200 FREE picture/text messages i am paying for--due to the data, they arent anywhere near free, AND i pay 5 dollars more per month!

i have to call them tomorrow and explain...great. im sure it will take many hours. i would have gladly abided by the rules if they would have told me, but no one ever did.

See that agreement you signed?

READ IT!

Little tip for those of you who slept through grade school and never listened to your parents:

When you sign your name to something, READ IT!

Aint it great.....
I'm a Cingular customer...well, now AT&T again.....I have 4 phones..we share 1400 Minutes.....after like 9 months, I have 6000 some odd rollover minutes...so I know my plan is too large.....I figure let me trim it down and save a few bucks.....
I call them to move it to the next lower plan..after listening for 10 minutes why I should leave it alone.. they finally let me move to a lesser plan.....
well my old bill was 89.95 for the first line, and 9.95 each for the 3 additional lines .....
I get my next bill and its got 2 phones listed as primary at 60.00 each and 2 additional lines at 9.95 each.....I just know this next phone call to them is not gonna be any fun..🙂

Also, as an added bonus, I lost all my rollover minutes except for 700.....")..guess I don't have to worry about them going to waste anymore....

i have like 7k rollover, and if i go to lower my plan, all get less minutes for more money :/

i remember when i payed $5 a month for 15 minutes in the early "90's 😀

charging for the message AS WELL AS the data is ridiculous, and is not something they mention.

Funny to see this. I got a call from them yesterday saying I didn't pay my bill from two months ago. Fortunately for me I still have the receipt their machine issued when I paid it.

Your connect fees may be free, but it will cost you to move data (text, picture, etc).

So, what does that agreement say?

-edit- damn grammar

Am I understanding this right? People who pay a flat fee for text/picture messaging have to pay data transmission rates to send the text or picture? Then what exactly do you get for the $5/month?

yes you are understanding this right as far as i understand, which probably isnt a lot because they purposely try to confuse you, i think.

what you are getting for 5 bucks is the 15 cents it costs per message to send.

They don't usually charge for data, because they use a seperate 15/50c pricing scheme for SMS/MMS. You suure you're reading it right?

i hope so, because i dont think i have ever been charged before, but i have never used a text plan and some people say they do as well as some (albeit confusing) evidence at the site points to them charging for it.

Are you guys retarded? I think ATOT has some sort of incapacity when it comes to cell phones.

How are you sending these text messages. Are you using SMS or MMS?

SMS should be the 15 cents per use thing. I got hte text plan so it costs me $5/month to send 200 texts..

MMS will cost you more and that has data with it right?

I'm not an expert on this but I can't believe all of you are just laughing at the OP. Judging how you guys responded to the text message in theaterthread and then the laughs here, it's quite obvious ATOT doesn't really text very often.

If it's just a simple text with "Hi how are you doing" or whatever in your text, you should be fine. If you're sending voice data and pictures through that may be a different thing....

Once again I don't get why ATOT is laughing. It's like someone says "I get 450 minutes but I also get charged data when I make calls??" I can imagine ATOT laughing and going DUHHH voice calls are sent via data streams to the AT&T towers and then to the target's cell phones. You think voice calls go magically through to another person?

Charging per KB for text messages on top of the text message fee would be like charging per KB for voice calls.

From AT&T's website:
Messaging Starter - 200 Messages (10 cents/additional messages)
You have the freedom to message any way to any one - text, picture, video and IM - without worrying what each message costs. That means every message counts the same. You can send and receive ANY combination of messages. Want to send all picture messages? No problem. All IMs? Go ahead and chat away - send and receive messages for less than 3 cents each!

Something isn't right here.

DLeRium, you're correct. It is all explained in the agreement.

-edit-
mugs,

Look up the AT&T definition of what a message is.

Mugs, that is what i was referring to...it says anything and everything you send or receive is free (text, picture, video and IM)...however the disclaimer underneath that basically disputes every single thing it said.

I know and so that means you can send SMSes for free. This is different fron the MEdia.net whcih uses INTERNET to send messages. Thus you get data coverage for that. If you use AT&T's AIM program on their branded phones you are sending IMs through texts (SMS)... however if you download 3rd party IM programs, you *COULD* be using data to send your messages and not SMSes. That is why you need to be very careful.

I think what you're dealing with is texts that are being sent as DATA, not as SMS. Check your phone config. I know I just browsed past that last night on my phone...

If I signed up for a text plan at the AT&T store and the guy deliberately setup my phone so it uses data to send texts and then I get charged, I would be pissed.

He has a text message plan, not a MMS plan. He was sending picture/audio type message that aren't covered on the plan. There are two different plans. READ WHAT BUY!

Did you READ what it says on the AT&T website?

That's what he got. Did you READ the OP? Did he say audio messages? He said PICTURE and TEXT. Stop jumping on the OP before you even understand how messaging works.
